As of Thursday, February 4, 2010, the House Committee on the Judiciary referred SB10-109 to Appropriations on a vote of 11-0. Though there is a revised fiscal impact statement for SB-109, it doesn't addressed expected litigation and ballot measures. If you're a patient and want to keep your rights guaranteed by the Colorado Constitution, Article XVIII, Section 14, start being a committed activist, call and write your Colorado Representatives, always register to vote, and join Front Range NORML.

Be sure to attend Saturday's event in Old Town Fort Collins,
the "Northern Colorado Medical Cannabis Expo".
Free and open to the general public.
See you there!

An Urgent Plea For Help From Brian Vicente,
Executive Director, Sensible Colorado

Please consider this message an urgent plea for help.  As accurately noted by Vince Carroll in Saturday's Denver Post, we are in serious jeopardy of losing the dispensary model in Colorado.   See Post article here.

Now is the time to come together.  Whether you have worked on this issue for 15 years or 15 days, we must put aside our differences and work together towards the common goal of protecting safe access in Colorado.

Our enemy is powerful.  Law enforcement will stop at nothing to re-establish the 5 patient cap and destroy dispensaries.  If we are going to protect patient access, we must organize as a movement.

What you can do:

(1)   Forward this message.  Let every patient, supporter, caregiver, and family member know that this is THE crucial time to get involved in the movement to protect safe access.

(2)   Attend a meeting.  We have formed a coalition of diverse patient and dispensary groups called the "Sensible Patient and Provider Coalition".  The coalition group CMMR, is holding regular meetings to organize our movement.  Sign up for email alerts, donate, and learn about meetings here.

(3)   Contact your state representative today and let them know that patients need dispensaries.  Find out who your representative is here.

(4)   Support Sensible Colorado and other reform groups.  The staff at Sensible Colorado has twice lead the movement to beat back the 5 patient cap.  With your help we can do it again.  Click here.

Thank you for your past and future efforts.  This is an urgent time.  Please act now.

Coloradoans For Medical Marijuana Regulation
CMMR is coalition of medical marijuana patients and providers supporting responsible regulation of medical marijuana in the state of Colorado. This is an organization worth subscribing to, as they are trying to provide a unified voice to legislators in the State Capitol. So please visit their site and contribute generously so that we can maintain our unique dispensary model and keep the government out of the doctor-patient and caregiver-patient relationship to the greatest extent possible.

Immediate Action!

We are in the 111th. Congress

H.R. 3939 - Truth in Trials Act

Call/write your representative in Congress and tell them that you want them to support H.R. 3939!

H.R. 3939 would provide an affirmative defense in federal court for defendants whose actions were in compliance with the medical marijuana laws of their state.

H.R. 2943 - the Act to Remove Federal Penalties
for Personal Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adult of 2009

Call/write your representative in Congress and tell them that you want them to support H.R. 2943!

H.R. 2943 would limit the federal government's authority to arrest and prosecute minor marijuana offenders.

H.R. 2835 - Medical Marijuana Patient Protection Act of 2009

Call/write your representative in Congress and tell them that you want them to support H.R. 2835!

H.R. 2835 would prohibit federal interference in state-run medical marijuana programs. It would also move marijuana from a Schedule I drug to a Schedule II drug, recognizing marijuana's medical value and making it possible for the FDA to begin setting up a regulatory framework for its use.

H.R. 1866 - Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2009

Call your congressional representative and tell them you want them to support the Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2009!

H.R. 1866 would allow for the commercial farming of industrial grade hemp. Low potency grades would be exempted from federal prohibition and states would be allowed to regulate commercial production of hemp.

S. 714 - National Criminal Justice Commission Act of 2009

Call your senator and tell them you want them to support Senate Bill 714 (S.714).

S. 714 seeks the establishment a blue-ribbon commission to review the efficaciousness of America's criminal justice policies with particular focus on the criminalization of nonviolent drug possession.
